Lady Washington made history yet again when she became the first documented vessel to make landfall on the Oregon coast, near Tillamook, Oregon. She is even said to be the first foreign vessel to circumnavigate Vancouver Island. The historic sailing ship, Lady Washington, also became the first American vessel to reach Japan in a futile attempt to move unsold pelts. She remained in the Pacific trade and foundered in the Philippines in 1797 before being lost at the mouth of the Mestizo River in the same year, near Vigan, northwest Luzon.
