STAFF AND CREW

MEET THE HISTORICAL SEAPORT STAFF AND CREW

Our Staff and Crew come from a variety of backgrounds and bring a lot to the table. We are so thankful to all of our committed staff and crew, both past and present, for all of their hard work in keeping our organization afloat. From the staff in the office to the crew on Lady Washington, GHHS would not be the same without them!

Brandi Bednarik

Brandi Bednarik, She/Her

Executive Director

Brandi discovered a love for non-profit work when she joined the Seaport. Before starting at the Seaport in 2008, her background was in the private sector of construction finance and management. Brandi believes strongly in our mission and in providing opportunities for education and maritime career growth. She is passionate about creating safe learning spaces and turning the Seaport Landing into a hub for arts, history, humanities, education, culture, and tourism.

Brandi is a local Harborite, who currently resides in Aberdeen with her family. She attended Aberdeen High School before getting an associate degree at Grays Harbor Community College.

Bailey Cavender, She/Her

Deputy Director

Bailey has fifteen years of museum and nonprofit experience, and first encountered the Seaport when she served as Steward and Education Coordinator on the Hawaiian Chieftain in 2011 and 2012. She has been volunteering on and off ever since, even serving on the board before coming to work at Seaport Landing.

Part of her job as Deputy Director is to develop an on-site Seaport Museum. Bailey holds BA in English and History from Whitworth University, a BS in Secondary Education from the University of Idaho, and an MA in Anthropology from the University of Idaho. Her master’s work dealt with the transportation history of the Pacific Northwest, and her museum specializations are collections management and education.

She is passionate about our organization because it is a powerful way to educate, train, and build community. Bailey currently lives in Hoquiam.

Brennan Phillips

Grant Manager

Brennan got his start in the maritime industry on Lady Washington, sailing for several seasons in various roles. He has since settled in Rhode Island as a Firefighter Paramedic but returned to Grays Harbor part time in 2022 as the Grant Writer before becoming our Grant Manager. Brennan has a BA in Secondary Education and History from Rider University. When he’s not working, he’s spending time at the archery range.

Lee Bednarik, They/Them

Events Manager

Lee got their start at the Seaport at an early age volunteering for office work and events. Then they started working a few hours a week and moved their way up to being Seaport’s event manager for the new community space at Seaport Landing. Born and raised in Aberdeen, Lee is excited to be a part of this development.

In their spare time, Lee goes to concerts, reads, and is an artist.

Katherine Pogue

Captain

Katherine started working on Tall Ships as a volunteer in her hometown of San Diego. She graduated from CSU San Marcos with a BA in history and a minor in literature and writing studies in 2013. Since then, she has pursued live-aboard Tall Ship life full time, working on various ships on the Great Lakes and West Coast while obtaining professional licensing along the way.

She now has a 200-ton near coastal master’s license and is settled aboard the Lady Washington as the full-time Captain. When Katherine is not on board, she lives in a 140-foot tiny house. She enjoys nature walks, reading, writing, and cuddling the Seaport’s resident cat and superstar Marlin in her free time.
