Lady Washington & Her Major Winter Rig Maintenance

Crew Doing Maintenance on Lady Washington

Thanks to your generosity, Lady Washington has undergone her first major rig maintenance in nearly a decade.  The t’gallant masts and yards, tops’l yards, jib-boom, sprit yard, and spanker gaff were all downrigged. These spars and their associated rigging were all thoroughly inspected and serviced. A number of blocks were replaced and new becketts and backropes were installed on the yards to improve crew safety aloft.

Maintenance ToolsThe crew bent on new sails to replace the nearly ten-year-old t’gallants, tops’ls, heads’ls, and spanker. In the engineering department, the generators and engine were tuned-up and ready for the season, the starboard battery bank was replaced, and much of the ship’s plumbing and wiring was overhauled. Up topsides, shipwright Pete Stein from Port Townsend saw to the repairs in the port bulwark planking and midships kavil cleat.

The crew have been busy training and uprigging Lady Washington since early February, and sailing out from Aberdeen towards the Inland Waters and Puget Sound.  Come see Lady in the Sound this year and see what your generosity has done!
