Meet our Port Captain Jamie Trost

Lady Washington is excited to introduce you to her new Port Captain Jamie Trost. You are going to love having Jamie on our team. Read on to see why he is the perfect fit for our beautiful Lady!

Lady Washington Port Captain Jamie TrostCaptain Jamie Trost grew up on the waters and in the woods of northwestern Pennsylvania. From an early age he was canoeing, windsurfing, and sailing on the waters of Lake Erie and Presque Isle Bay. Captain Trost’s hometown of Erie was where Oliver Hazard Perry’s Lake Erie Squadron was built during the War of 1812, and that history loomed large over the waterfront. When he was 13, he saw the launch of the current Brig Niagara replica, and the next summer toured Pride of Baltimore II on her first visit to Erie. While deeply enamored with traditional vessels, Captain Trost spent most of his teenage years racing on modern boats and rowing shells. He was captain of the Crew team at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, where he earned his degree in Professional and Creative Writing. Shortly after graduating, Captain Trost was on his way to teach English in Japan when a delay with his work visa led to his first Tall Ship job as a deckhand on Appledore IV during its only summer in Erie. While he eventually spent two years in the rural Japanese farming town of Bisei-Cho, he was back to Tall Ships once he returned statesides.

Over the past 21 years, Captain Trost has served aboard some of the finest sailing ships on the East, West, Great Lakes, and Gulf Coasts, including Sultana, Pride of Baltimore II, Lynx, Gazela, Elissa, Roseway, and, of course, Lady Washington.
