Not all vacations are created equal. If you have an adventurous spirit and are seeking a once-in-a-lifetime experience, join us for a tall ship passage. A passage, also called a “transit,” is a one-way voyage from from port A to port B. A passage can be as short as a one-day trip from Oakland to Sausalito in San Francisco Bay, or as long as Aberdeen, Wash., to Pier 40 on the San Francisco waterfront, which can take up to eight days.
You will get a real “behind the scenes” look at life aboard a modern tall ship — it will be you, the crew, the boat, and the ocean. And what an ocean! The Pacific Ocean and the inland waters we sail are full of interesting marine life, and they join at the horizon with a blue sky as far as the eye can see.
It’s important to note that Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain operate on a 21st century schedule. We depart on time, and we do our best to arrive on time. Our ships travel under wind power when the wind is in our favor, but when it is not, we use the ships’ auxiliary diesel engines. You might encounter rain, fog, and occasionally rough seas, though we never travel when conditions are unsafe.
